Chapter 15 of 16
What this app is not
Blue Dolphin is a hobby-grade aid for recreational boating, built from open data. It is NOT:
- Not an official navigation product. It must not be used as the primary means of navigation. Always cross-check with official nautical charts and local Notices to Mariners.
- Not survey-grade data. Depths come from open bathymetry (EMODnet, roughly a 115 m grid) and coastlines and seamarks from OpenStreetMap. Real shoals can be missing, charted depths can be wrong, buoys move. Strait and bridge figures are compiled from public sources and labelled with where each number came from. Verify anything that matters against official publications.
- Not a guarantee of legality. The 300 m / 8 kn coastal warnings are a courtesy aid. Knowing and obeying the actual regulations is the skipper’s job.
- Not a watchkeeper. Warnings work while the app is open in the foreground. It is not an anchor alarm, not AIS, not radar, and it does not see other boats, swimmers or floating lines.
- Not liable. The app is provided as-is. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the author and Bombadil d.o.o. accept no liability for any damage arising from its use. You use it at your own risk. That is what you agree to on first launch.
The skipper remains responsible for the vessel, the crew and the passage. Full text: Terms of use (in the app: Settings → Terms of use).
