Chapter 14 of 16
Privacy: nothing leaves your phone
The app has a Privacy page in Settings that says it all. Here is the whole story anyway:
- No account, no sign-in, no backend. There is nowhere to send your data and no code that could.
- Your GPS position never leaves the device. It is used to draw the chart, evaluate warnings and record your trips, all on the phone.
- Trips, routes, marks, ratings, settings: everything you create is stored only in the app’s local database on your phone.
- No analytics, no advertising, no trackers, no crash reporters that phone home.
- The chart is inside the app, so it is never downloaded.
- What the app downloads on its own: a small configuration file from bombadil.hr at launch (bridge opening times and tuning values), and the DHMZ marine forecast, refreshed every few hours while the app is open. Both are ordinary anonymous downloads: no personal data, no location. The app works fine offline without them.
- “Weather” in the ring menu opens Windy in your browser, “How to use” opens this guide, and the email buttons open your own mail app. Nothing is sent until you press send there.
In full disclosure: because there is no cloud, there is no backup yet. If you delete the app (or lose the phone), your trips, routes and marks are gone with it. Accounts and sync may come later. Until then, treat the phone as the only copy.
